EReBA Science Journalism Project by DDRN and USJA

Empowerment of Science Journalists and CSOs in Uganda and Rwanda for Research-Based Advocacy (EReBA) project

Summary: This project aims to (1) build the capacity of science journalists and CSO staff in Uganda and Rwanda, (2) strengthen the advocacy work of the National Association of Professional Environmentalists (NAPE), the Science Foundation for Livelihoods and Development (SCIFODE), and the Rwanda Development Organisation (RDO), and (3) establish a network of science journalists, CSO staff, and university researchers.

The purpose is to qualify media coverage and strengthen advocacy with a focus on curbing the effects of climate change on farmers and communities and strengthening evidence-based debates and interventions. By extension, the participants, selected by the Uganda Science Journalists Association (USJA) and the Rwanda Association of Science Journalists (RASJ), will be tasked with producing content in support of the advocacy work of NAPE, SCIFODE, and RDO, and publishing or broadcasting it in mainstream media. Finally, networks will be established for future cooperation which will be cemented through monthly networking meetings.
