Development Science Shop – Students’ section

The Development Science Shop is a platform for study proposals posted by practitioners of development assistance looking for students to carry out specific research. The study proposals are provided by Danish NGOs, grassroots organisations and consultancy firms and concern issues related to their daily work.

It is an initiative aimed at providing students interested in development issues with the opportunity to work with a clearly defined subject, get in contact with development-related organisations and conduct research producing results applicable to the actual work of an organisation or firm.

The DDRN Development Science Shop is inspired by the science shops run by some Danish universities. What characterizes the Development Science Shop is that it is for all students and will only list proposals related to development issues.

As such, there are no requirements to the level of the student or scope of the paper – the proposals can be suited for either B.Sc. projects, M.Sc. projects or other papers. However, the specific study proposal may contain restrictions on the part of the organisation/firm.

How to apply
In order to ease the work of the organisations which have posted proposals, DDRN will facilitate the initial contact between the students and the organisations. If you are interested in applying to do research for an organisation, all you need to do is write an e-mail to info@ddrn.dk providing the following information:

  • which study proposal you are interested in
  • which university you are studying at and what course you are taking
  • the nature of the paper you are going to write (time frame for writing, length of paper etc.)
  • any initial ideas on how to address the study proposal (not a requirement)

The study proposals can be found here.

Note: DDRN is only responsible for establishing the contact between organisations/firms and students and cannot be held responsible for the outcome of the collaboration should one or more parties not be satisfied after the collaboration has ended.
