A

Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS). TWAS is an independent international organisation with a mission to support and promote scientific capacity in the South for science-based sustainable development. TWAS encourages South-South and South-North cooperation in science, technology and innovation and the sharing of research experiences in solving the problems facing developing countries.

Access to Global Online Research in Agriculture (AGORA). AGORA is a program under the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) set up in order to provide academic instutions, government bodies and research institutes in developing countries with free or low-cost access to international scientific journals on agriculture and the biological, environmental and social sciences.

Africa-Europe Group for Interdisciplinary Studies (AEGIS). AEGIS was set up in order to build upon the resources and the research potential available within Africanist institutions of the EU. AEGIS aims at sharing intellectual resources, conceptualise new research themes, disseminate knowledge about Africa, provide academic guidance and promote interdiscilinary approaches to the study of Africa. 

Asia-Pacific Development Information Programme (APDIP). APDIP is an initiative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) that aims to promote the development and application of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for sustainable human development in the Asia-Pacific region. APDIP's three core programme areas are policy development and dialogue; access; content development and knowledge management.


C

Cab International (CABI). CABI is an organisation specialising in scientific publishing, research with focus on knowledge production for development and knowledge management, and communication. Key thematic areas include agriculture, environment and food security.

Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN). CIESIN is an independent organisation under Columbia University's Earth Institute. CIESIN works at the intersection of the social, natural, and information sciences, and specializes in on-line data and information management, spatial data integration and training, and interdisciplinary research related to human interactions in the environment.

Climate Change Media Partnership. Internews, Panos and IIED have joined forces to support developing world journalism and perspectives from the heart of the international climate negotiations.

Commission for Research Partnerships with Developing Countries (KFPE). KFPE is dedicated to promoting research partnerships with developing and transition countries and building bridges between North and South, and between research scientists and people working in development.

Chronic Poverty Research Centre (CPRC). CPRC is an international partnership of universities, research institutes and NGOs with the aims of providing research, analysis and policy guidance and stimulating national and international debate. The CPRC website hosts a news section and a blog.

Development Gateway Foundation. Development Gateway Foundation seeks to reduce poverty and enable change in developing nations through information technology. The website hosts an online resources portal for development information and knowledge-sharing and includes a.o. virtual communities for development officials and a large online directory of official aid activities.

Development Studies Assocation (DSA) . DSA is a member-based research association and works to improve links and information exchange between its members and to promote the development research community in the UK and Ireland.

DevIT - Network on ICT for Development. DevIT is a network of students who wish to engage in a discussion on how ICT can become a useful resource for people and countries with limited resources.

e-Agriculture.org. e-Agriculture.org is a global initiative to enhance sustainable agricultural development and food security by improving the use of information, communication, and associated technologies in the sector.

Eldis. Eldis is one of the knowledge sverices of the Institute of Development Studies (IDS). Eldis supports the documentation, exchange and use of evidence-based development knowledge and aims at disseminating knowledge to audiences of researchers, development practitioners and policy formers at national and international levels.

European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes (EADI). EADI is a leading professional network for development and regional studies in Europe, whose membership includes a wide range of development research and training organisations, think tanks, national bodies and researchers throughout Europe.

Europe's Forum on International Cooperation (EUFORIC). Euforic is a not for profit cooperative, owned and guided by its members. These members are a richly diverse mix of NGOs, research institutes, educational institutions, networks, governments, and other interested groups. Euforic aims to be an open and highly valued information and communication resource for people and institutions engaged in international cooperation and development.

Evidence-Based Policy in Development Network (EBPDN). EBPDN is a key outcome of ODI's Civil Society Partnership Programme (CSPP). The network's website is designed as a community website which provides: knowledge on bridging research and policy; details of members of the network; a directory of training and advisory expertise; discussion forums; project areas; and a partnership brokering area.

Focuss.Info. Focuss.Info is a collaborative platform supported by more than 40 global, national and regional institutions and more than 30 individuals who are all promoting the newest Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills in the domain of global development research and studies.

Glocal Network on Media and Development (Glocal NOMAD) is a network between Roskilde University, Aarhus University and Malmo University that aims to create an organized setting for Danish and cross-border knowledge production in the field of media and communication for development.

I

ICT for Rural Development. Knowledge Map commissioned by the World Bank Information for Development Program (infoDev) to address the problem of knowledge about how ICT can contribute to improved livelihoods of the rural poor being fragmented and not easily accessible to governments, donors, practitioners and researchers. 

ICT-KM Program. The ICT-KM Program of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) promotes and supports the use of information and communications technology (ICT) and knowledge management (KM) to improve the effectiveness of the CGIAR System's work on behalf of the poor in developing countries.

ID21. id21 is one of the knowledge services of the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex. id21 communicates the latest UK-sourced international development research to policymakers & practitioners worldwide.

Information and Knowledge Management (IKM) Emergent Research Programme. Five year research programme launched in April 2007 and funded by the Directorate General for International Cooperation (DGIS), part of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  The objective of the programme is to improve development practice by promoting change in the way the development sector approaches the selection, management and use of knowledge in the formation and implementation of its policies and programmes.

International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD). IICD is a non-profit foundation that specialises in information and communication technology (ICT) as a tool for development.

LINK Centre. The LINK Centre is a research and training body, based at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa, in information and communications technology (ICT) policy, regulation and management in Southern Africa. LINK seeks to maximise the benefits of the information society and the knowledge economy through capacity building in the public sector and development arenas via training, applied research and consultancy services.

Pan Asia Networking (PAN). PAN is a programme intiative of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) in Canada. PAN supports research into innovative ways of integrating Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) into key development challenges such as health, education, livelihoods and governance, in order to promote sustainable development.

Participatory Video Research Network. The Participatory Video Research Network aims at sharing knowledge, views and news about using participatory video in research among members of the network.

Publish what you fund - The Global Campaign for Aid Transparency. Publish What You Fund works to increase the availability and accessibility of timely, comprehensive and comparable information about aid.

R

Research Dialogue. Research Dialogue is a DFID dialogue blog, which intends to offer a more informal insight into DFID-funded research and development research in general and to stimulate discussion and debate.

Research for Development (R4D). R4D is the portal to DFID centrally funded research. DFID’s research strategy highlights research communication and uptake in order to make research more available, accessible and useable. The R4D webpage connects researchers to different topic areas, and the webpage hosts a Communication’s Corner, which aims to inspire with examples of innovative communications.

Research ICT Africa!. Research ICT Africa! contributes to the gathering of up to date ICT data and establishes repository of information for furthering research and policy formulation. The programme promotes interaction between researchers and their peers at national, regional and international levels to harmonize methodologies, tools and standards for conducting public-interest ICT policy research.

Research and Policy in Development (RAPID). RAPID is a section under the Overseas Development Institute working on improving the use of research and evidence in development policy and practice.

Science and Development Network (SciDev.Net). SciDev.Net provides a platform for science communication aimed at policymakers, researchers, media and civil society. The free-access website provides information on the latest developments in science, technology, agriculture, climate change and health in the developing world with reports and analysis by mainly Southern-based contributors.

W

Web 2.0 for Development Gateway. Website providing news on web tools that can be used to promote development, sponsored by the Technical Center for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), The International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD), The UN Food and Agriculture Organizationa (FAO), Europe's Forum on International Cooperation (Euforic), and the Association for Progressive Communications (APC).

World Federation of Science Journalists (WFSJ). WFSJ is a non-profit organization representing 37 associations of science and technology journalists from Africa, the Americas, the Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Middle East. WFSJ seeks to further science journalism as a bridge between science, scientists and the public.

Ø

Ørecomm. A bi-national research group that originated at Malmö University (MAH) and Roskilde University (RUC) for research in the field of Communication for Development. Ørecomm focuses on the relations between media, communication and social change processes at both global and local levels.
