NEW: Science Centre in Promoting a Knowledge and Innovative Society for Sustained and Responsible Growth in Developing Countries

This conference of Science Centre professionals aims at exchanging views, information and data to understand the role of Science Centres in developing countries in promoting a knowledge society for sustainable and responsible growth. It is expected that the resolutions taken in the Workshop after elaborate professional discussions would help Governments to take note of the profound role the Science Centres are playing in national development and to take proactive gestures to support the Science Centre activities for national growth.

Call for papers: Equality, Growth and Sustainability – Do they mix?

The conference is a forum for examining if and how questions of equality, growth and sustainability can be reconciled in organisations and implemented in general practice. In addition to the key note speeches, there will be two kinds of interactive conference formats: parallel paper sessions and workshops.

Call for panels: African Engagements: On whose terms? AEGIS 4th European Conference on African Studies 

The conference is open to all disciplines and methodological approaches in the Social Sciences and Humanities. The Organising Committee strongly encourages panel proposals that look into how the world can study and engage a resurgent Africa on the basis of mutual respect.

Policies to foster and sustain equitable development in times of crises

This conference organised by the Poverty Reduction, Equity, and Growth Network’s (PEGNet) will provide a platform for high-level dialogue between development researchers, practitioners and policy-makers. Sub-themes include: Insurance mechanisms; Adaptation to climate change; Escaping the informal-employment trap; Migration and remittances; ODA and shocks; Income diversification.

Planning Africa 2010 - Beyond Crisis: Opportunities and Actions

The intention of this conference is to: 1) Strengthen and grow African planning networks and external international connections by attracting key delegates; 2) Respond to global economic and ecological crises from an African planning perspective by articulating and publicizing leading planning practice and solutions that are shared at the conference; and 3) Strengthen the planning profession in Africa by branding and publicizing the conference and its outputs.

STEPS Conference 2010: Pathways to Sustainability

The STEPS Centre based at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) at Sussex University is hosting this conference, which will investigate the new politics of environment, development and social justice in light of current and future changes in environment and social systems. The conference will bring together researchers and practitioners engaged in bringing cutting-edge social science perspectives to environmental sustainability questions, and address a range of themes related to a.o climate change, agriculture, urbanisation, energy etc.

What migration for which development in Africa?

The Applied Economic Research Center for Development (CREAD) of the University of Bouzaréah in Algeria is hosting a meeting on migration and development in an attempt to map the various forms and impacts of migration in an African context. The meeting will focus on all aspects of scientific approaches and academic products in a necessarily interdisciplinary outlook. In relation hereto a call has been issued for papers. Papers with a gender focus or based on fieldwork are particularily welcomed.

Nordic Research Day on Impact Assessment

Nordic Research Day 2010 is intended to create a space for researchers to meet, exchange ideas and experiences, learn about each others’ work and explore common research agendas. The event is open to everyone who is engaged in, or interested in, research on impact assessment. The format is designed to allow for plenty of open discussions, exchange and networking.

Development Models of Emerging Countries - Characteristics, Scope and Challenges

The objective of this conference organised by Laval University in Quebec is to examine the characteristics of different development models used by emerging countries (BRIC, VISTA, Next Eleven countries) in order to identify their significance for other developing countries and other global players. Themes include a.o. economic development, governance, labour and trade, the economic crisis.

Society, Culture, and Nature in Latin America - New Political Tendencies

5th Nolan Conference organised by the Nordic Latin American Research Network. The conference takes place on the background of a decade of intense and radical changes in the political map of Latin America. Themes to discussed include: The Political Ecology of extractivism: Social conflicts over access and control with natural resources in Latin America; New forms of democracy and political cultures; National and local responses to climate policies and regulatory instruments; and more.

Development & Aid Effectiveness:Interrogating Pedagogies in (International) Development Studies
