Understanding the linkages between
climate change, human health, water and food security:
Research and knowledge sharing for Southern Africa

Cape Town, South Africa - February 18-20, 2009

JOINT INITIATIVE organised and financed by: DBL-Centre for Health Research and Development (University of Copenhagen); Danish Development Research Network (DDRN); Danish Water Forum (DWF); and Danish Research Network for International Health (Enreca Health). With assistance from Global Water Partnership (GWP), SADC.

40 participants from Southern Africa and Denmark attended this workshop, which culminated with the establishment of a network for climate change research in the SADC region: The Southern African Climate Change Network (SACCNET)!

The workshop included key note speeches, presentations of mappings of research related to climate change, with focus on human health, water and food security. Several sessions were dedicated to thematic and cross-thematic discussions to identify knowledge gaps and interlinkages; and the participants actively engaged in fruitful group and plenary discussions.

At the end of the workshop, the participants elected an Interim Steering Committee for this initiative. The Steering Committee includes representatives from University of Botswana, University of Zambia, Zambia Meteorological Department, National University of Lesotho, and the Danish research networks.

To see the contents of the workshop, please read the final programme [pdf, 87kB]. The worskhop report is currently being elaborated and will be made available soon. See who attended by reading the list of participants [pdf, 28kB].

All documentation from the workshop will be made available below. You can download:
