Working groups - General information

Would you like to share your ideas with other members of DDRN? – Share and disseminate your research results? – Engage in a discussion on a government policy or strategy? – Discuss challenges and opportunities for the inclusion of research in development practice? – Exchange opinions with researchers, practitioners, advisers, or consultants on a regular basis?

Then you may wish to join an established or start a new working group within DDRN!

DDRN aims to facilitate the inclusion of research and research-based knowledge in design and implementation of development assistance. Active working groups are a means to ensure this is done as a member-driven network, based on the interest and commitment of researchers and practitioners.

Purpose of working groups
Working groups are established by DDRN members for a specific purpose (e.g. when a need for discussing a matter/idea with others is detected), and are thus expected to produce tangible outcomes e.g. workshops, conferences, publications, research briefs, or inputs to strategies.

Working groups can also be established upon a call from the DDRN Secretariat when relevant possibilities arise, e.g. openings for contributions to new strategies for Danish development support.

Members themselves are the promoters of the self-driven working groups. The DDRN Secretariat provides a page for working groups on the website of the network, and can assist with facilitating the establishment of working groups, announcements, booking meeting facilities, matching interested members, facilitating contact to members and institutions, and dissemination of outcomes.

Working groups can apply for funding for specific activities. For information about applying for funding from DDRN, please refer to ‘Funding opportunities’

Working groups are generally expected to adhere to the following:

  • Working groups should be open for new members
  • A brief description for the DDRN website of the working group’s field of interest, purpose, objectives and activities should be prepared
  • Twice annually, the following should be submitted to the DDRN Secretariat: Updated information for the DDRN website (status of ongoing and completed activities and outcomes, planned activities and time schedule and outcomes for the coming year) and updated participant information
  • Workshop proceedings, reports, minutes etc from working group activities should be submitted to the DDRN Secretariat for website dissemination
  • All activities organised by the working group should contribute to the achievement of DDRN’s objectives
  • Working groups are generally expected to form a core facilitation team, which will handle the detailed planning of working group activities
