Seminar: "The Role of the Private Sector in Sustainable Natural Resource Management and Poverty Alleviation in Developing Countries".

Time and venue: October 6, 2009. Danish Institute for International Studies, Denmark.

The seminar discussed the question of whether and how the private sector can be a positive player in Natural Resource Management in developing countries, in particular in states with weak and centralized management regimes.
Presentions by:
- Joshua Bishop, Chief Economist, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), who seeks to promote market-based approaches to nature conservation, while also presenting the case for conservation in economic terms.
- Rikke Jensen from DLH, a major timber producer and wholesaler supplying timber from sustainably produced raw materials.
Discussant was Thorsten Treue, Associate Professor, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Copenhagen. Dr. Treue works with decentralized forest management and forest policy in developing countries.
