Meeting on New GDN Global Research Project - The Climate Challenge: Sustaining Development Progress in a Warming World

Date: March 9, 2009 - 14.00-17.00
Venue: University of Copenhagen, Department of Geography and Geology, Øster Voldgade 10, 1350 Copenhagen K. Meeting Room 06.0.613

The Global Development Network (GDN) is presently engaged in identifying the thematic priorities for its next Global Research Project that has Climate Change as its chosen theme. It aims to fill some of the critical gaps in the knowledge base regarding the impact and implications of global climate change for eco-nomic development and poverty reduction around the world. A longer-term objective is to promote excellence in research and policy analysis in developing countries. GDN is in the process of fleshing out the call for proposals based on consultations with policy makers and people in academia, think tanks, corporate firms and civil society organizations as well as multilateral and bilateral agencies. As part of the effort, a brainstorming workshop was held on February 1-2, 2009 in Kuwait immediately prior to the Annual GDN Conference.

A second small and informal side-event was organised with the Danish Development Research Network (DDRN) before the Scientific Congress on Climate Change organized by the International Alliance of Research Universities to be held on March 10-12, 2009. The meeting aimed to mine the experience and talent present at the congress to help GDN move forward, especially in terms of focusing the proposed research program on topics and areas where the value-added by research teams in developing countries is likely to be maximum.
